If you had trouble following the Vice Presidential debate last night – don’t worry, adennak at DailyKos has got you covered.
It’s not off-base to say that Sarah Palin did better than expected last night – but at the same time, we really need to analyze the way she dodged questions she didn’t know the answers to and why her answers sounded like canned responses peppered with key phrases such as maverick, partisan, six-pack Joe, hockey mom and energy. You must admit, it did get confusing slash frustrating when you were thinking what question is she answering?
Biden Biography
Joe Biden Biography
Born Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he is of Irish Catholic heritage. Biden was the first of four children born to Joe, Sr., a car salesman, and Jean Biden. He was raised in Scranton and moved to New Castle County, Delaware, at age ten.
Joe Biden, who overcame an embarrassing stutter, attended Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware, a Catholic prep school. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware in 1965 and a law degree from Syracuse University in New York in 1968.
After graduating from law school, he returned to Delaware to work as a trial attorney at a law firm in Wilmington, serving as a public defender. He quickly turned to politics, serving on the New Castle county council from 1970 to 1972.
Biden Wins VP Debate
Poll: Joe Biden wins debate, Palin exceeds expectations
A national poll of people who watched the vice presidential debate suggests that Democratic Sen. Joe Biden won but also hints that Republican Gov. Sarah Palin exceeded expectations.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey is not a measurement of the views of all Americans, since only people who watched the debate were questioned.
Fifty-one percent of those polled thought Biden did the best job in Thursday night’s debate, while 36 percent thought Palin did the best job.
But respondents said the folksy Palin was more likable, scoring 54 percent to Biden’s 36 percent.
Sarah Palin tours stage at Republican National Convention
Sarah Palin touted her small-town roots and swiped at Democrat Barack Obama during a highly anticipated speech to the Republican convention on Wednesday, ridiculing her critics as “the Washington elite” who did not understand everyday life in America.
In her public debut in the spotlight, John McCain’s choice for vice president portrayed herself as a Washington outsider and came out swinging against Obama and members of the news media who have raised questions about her qualifications.
“I’ve learned quickly these past few days that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone,” the Alaska governor said in remarks prepared for delivery at the convention.
“But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion — I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country.”
Since McCain made the virtually unknown Palin his choice for running mate, she has been the center of a media storm fueled by disclosures about her unmarried teenage daughter’s pregnancy, a probe into her role in an Alaskan official’s firing and questions about her political record.
Fred Thompson, the Actor turned Politician
Fred Thompson, the actor turned politician, recounted the harrowing story of John McCain’s captivity as a Vietnam prisoner of war to tout the presidential candidate at the Republican National Convention and criticized Democrat Barack Obama’s support for abortion rights.
“Now, being a POW certainly doesn’t qualify anyone to be president,” Thompson said Tuesday as images of McCain flashed behind him on a giant screen. “But it does reveal character.”
Thompson went into excruciating detail describing McCain’s 5 1/2 years in captivity in a Hanoi prison, describing how the Arizona senator’s captors cracked his ribs and broke his teeth off at the gums. He also described how McCain refused to go home when his captors offered to release him for propaganda purposes.
“We hear a lot of talk about hope these days,” Thompson said, a clear reference to one of Obama’s campaign themes. “John McCain knows about hope. That’s all he had.”
Fred Thomson also used his speech to denounce Obama for declining to say when human life begins, although Thompson’s own record on abortion is mixed.
“We need a president who doesn’t think that the protection of the unborn or a newly born baby is above his pay grade,” Thompson said.
The comment was a clear reference to an answer that Obama gave at a forum at California’s Saddleback Church sponsored by the popular evangelical pastor Rick Warren. On a question referring to the number of abortions in the country, Warren asked Obama at what point he believed babies had human rights.
“Well, you know, I think that whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity, you know, is above my pay grade,” the Illinois senator replied.

Sarah Palin Hot Photos
On the Richter scale of Internet search energy, Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s announcement on Friday that he had chosen Sarah Palin, the current Governor of Alaska, as his running mate measured a magnitude 10. If you compare the number of searches for “John McCain,” “Barack Obama” or “Joe Biden” to those for “Sarah Palin,” there’s no contest. In just two days, the number of U.S. Internet searches for “Sarah Palin” reached a peak greater than any other political personality in the last three years. In the week ending Aug. 30, 2008, searches for Gov. Palin were almost four times as popular as Obama searches, eight times as popular as McCain searches and over 10 times more popular than searches for Biden.

Sen. Joe Biden gave a knowledgeable but restrained performance in Thursday night’s Debate, while Gov. Sarah Palin sought to show that her accomplishments as governor and mayor prove she is qualified to be vice president.
Biden slammed John McCain, saying that “he has been no maverick on the issues that matter to people lives,” but his only challenge to Palin was asking her to articulate a policy on the Iraq war.
Palin pushed her “track record of reform” and said she and McCain are a ” team of mavericks.”
“We’re known for putting partisan politics aside to just get the job done,” she said.
Sarah Palin tried to paint Barack Obama as “dangerous” for being open to meeting with rogue leaders without preconditions.
“An issue like that taken up by a presidential candidate goes beyond naivete and goes beyond poor judgment,” Palin said.
