Diwali or Divali is the most celebrated festivals of India. The other name for Diwali Festival is Deepavali or Deepawali. The word ‘Deepawali‘ is a Sanskrit compound made of two words ‘Deepa’ meaning lamp or light and ‘Avali’ meaning a row.

The word Deepawali therefore means ‘rows of lights’. Hence Diwali in India is celebrated as the Festival of Lights.
