Palin Mistates Biden comment on Barack Obama

Sarah

Sarah Palin misrepresented to a campaign audience Thursday what her Democratic counterpart Joe Biden has said about Barack Obama‘s ability to handle a foreign crisis.

“Sen. Obama‘s own running mate, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has informed us that a serious international crisis is certain if Obama is elected and that he is not ready to deal with it,” Palin told thousands of supporters at a rally in this western Ohio city.

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin appeared on NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live,” along with Palin lookalike Tina Fey.

The show’s opening sketch featured a mock press conference with Fey reprising her role as the Alaska governor.

The piece then cut to a shot of Sarah Palin watching Fey’s performance on a television monitor with Lorne Michaels, the show’s executive producer.

Sarah Palin can give as good as she gets. The Republican vice presidential nominee appeared on NBC-TV’s “Saturday Night Live” and played along as Tina Fey reprised her impersonation of the Alaska governor.

Sarah Palin stood with Executive Producer Lorne Michaels late Saturday as the two watched Sarah Palin stage a mock news conference. Sarah Palin lamented Michaels wouldn’t let her impersonate Fey on her show, “30 Rock,” but Michaels said no one watched the program anyway.

Sarah Palin Autism

Sarah Palin Autism

I just finished watching the presidential debates, and heard the word “autism” brought up not once, not twice, but at least three or four times.

Mr. McCain referred to “precious children” with autism, and suggested that Sarah Palin would be a strong supporter of parents of autistic children (presumably because she has a child with Down syndrome). Mr. Obama described plans to increase funding for autism research and implied support for increased funding for special education (though he made no particular mention of how or whether special education might be reformed or improved).

McCain took issue with a recent attack by Democratic Rep. John Lewis, an icon of the civil rights movement, who levied a harsh attack against McCain and Sarah Palin for not doing more to repudiate the negative statements some supporters have made at GOP rallies. McCain called the attack “unfair and totally inapproate” and rightly noted that he has personally repudiated attacks from Republicans against Obama.

Sarah Palin says Obama running against Bush, not McCain

Sarah Palin says Obama running against Bush, not McCain

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin on Tuesday said Barack Obama is running as though his opponent is President Bush instead of John McCain. She called it a strategy that’s “wearing pretty thin.”

Addressing several hundred supporters at a fundraiser, the Alaska governor said voters know McCain as a political maverick and war hero and that Obama is trying too hard to link the Arizona senator to the unpopular GOP president.

“Our opponents spend so much time pretending they are running against the current president. I think it’s wearing pretty thin,” Palin said, without mentioning Bush’s name. “The American people are really waking up and saying no, the status quo is not one of the boxes to check.”

Palin Abuse of Power

Sarah Palin Abuse of Power

An Alaska ethics inquiry found on Friday that U.S. Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin Abused her Power as the state’s governor, casting a cloud over John McCain’s controversial choice of running mate for the November 4 election.

At the same time, McCain shifted his strategy. After a week in which his campaign tried in vain to seize the momentum from Democrat Barack Obama with fierce personal attacks, he adopted a conciliatory tone, calling on supporters to respect the Illinois senator.

The Alaska inquiry centered on whether Palin’s dismissal of the state’s public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, was linked to her personal feud with a state trooper who was involved in a contentious divorce with the governor’s sister.

A report prepared for the state Legislative Council said Monegan’s refusal to fire the trooper was not the sole reason he was dismissed but was likely a contributing factor. The McCain-Palin campaign had said the commissioner was fired because of poor performance.

Palin Report Due Out Today

Sen. John McCain unleashed his harshest attack ad yet today, charging that Sen. Barack Obama “lied” about his relationship to 1960s anti-war terrorist Bill Ayers.

Despite the GOP’s televised attack, it was the Republican team of McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin who braced for bad news today.

Sarah Palin Defends Terrorist Comment

Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin defended her claim that Barack Obama “pals around with terrorists,” saying the Democratic presidential nominee’s association with a 1960s radical is an issue that is “fair to talk about.”

Obama has denounced the radical views and actions of Bill Ayers, a founder of the violent Weather Underground group during the Vietnam era. On Sunday, Obama dismissed the criticism from the McCain campaign, leveled by Palin, as “smears” meant to distract voters from real problems such as the troubled economy.

Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate, launched the attack Saturday and repeated it twice Sunday, signaling a new strategy by John McCain’s presidential campaign to go after Obama‘s character.

“The comments are about an association that has been known but hasn’t been talked about,” Palin said as she boarded her plane in Long Beach, Calif. “I think it’s fair to talk about where Barack Obama kicked off his political career, in the guy’s living room.”

Later, at an Omaha rally, Palin elaborated on her attack, claiming one of Obama‘s advisers had described Obama and Ayers as “friendly.”

“In fact, Obama held one of his first meetings hoping to kick off his political career in Bill Ayers’ living room,” she told the crowd, which had just raised $2.5 million for the Republican party’s McCain-Palin Victory 2008 fund.

At issue is Obama‘s association with Ayers. Both have served on the same Chicago charity and live near each other in Chicago. Ayers also held a meet-the-candidate event at his home for Obama when Obama first ran for office in the mid-1990s, the event cited by Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin Immortalized In Pron Video

Sarah Palin

Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin can’t get any hotter than she is right now.

According to TMZ.com, Sarah Palin is officially a legend —

Hustler is shooting a pron video with a look-alike, titled “Nailin’ Paylin.” The spelling is sic and so is Hustler.

The faux Sarah is Lisa Ann, who “will be nailing the Russians who come knocking on her back-door.” In another scene — a flashback — “young Paylin’s creationist college professor will explain a ‘big bang’ theory even she can’t deny!”

There’s also a threeway with Hillary and Condoleezza look-alikes.

The video is in pre-production, but is being fast tracked for release before the election.

What do you think? Can a vice president run the country and still be a pron star?

If you had trouble following the Vice Presidential debate last night – don’t worry, adennak at DailyKos has got you covered.

It’s not off-base to say that Sarah Palin did better than expected last night – but at the same time, we really need to analyze the way she dodged questions she didn’t know the answers to and why her answers sounded like canned responses peppered with key phrases such as maverick, partisan, six-pack Joe, hockey mom and energy. You must admit, it did get confusing slash frustrating when you were thinking what question is she answering?

Sen. Joe Biden gave a knowledgeable but restrained performance in Thursday night’s Debate, while Gov. Sarah Palin sought to show that her accomplishments as governor and mayor prove she is qualified to be vice president.

Biden slammed John McCain, saying that “he has been no maverick on the issues that matter to people lives,” but his only challenge to Palin was asking her to articulate a policy on the Iraq war.

Palin pushed her “track record of reform” and said she and McCain are a ” team of mavericks.”

“We’re known for putting partisan politics aside to just get the job done,” she said.

Sarah Palin tried to paint Barack Obama as “dangerous” for being open to meeting with rogue leaders without preconditions.

“An issue like that taken up by a presidential candidate goes beyond naivete and goes beyond poor judgment,” Palin said.

Gwen Ifill

Gwen Ifill
Obama Book

The upcoming debate between Vice Presidential candidates Sarah Palin and Joe Biden hasn’t even occurred yet and it already has its first controversy. It seems that Gwen Ifill, the PBS reporter who will moderate the debate is in the tank for Barack Obama.

This should not be too surprising. Most journalists in the mainstream media are as much in love with Barack Obama as the giddy college students who used to swoon at his rallies. Gwen Ifill works for PBS, hardly a hotbed of McCain support. But it seems that Gwen Ifill has not only an ideological interest in an Obama victory, but a financial stake as well.

Gwen Ifill is coming out with a book, entitled The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, a book describing the state of black politics in the modern age, as the civil rights generation starts to give way to a generation of African Americans who benefited from the civil rights struggle and never lived under Jim Crow and segregation.

Sarah Palin Got Zoning Aid, Gifts

Sarah Palin

Though Sarah Palin depicts herself as a pit bull fighting good-old-boy politics, in her years as mayor she and her friends received special benefits more typical of small-town politics as usual, an Associated Press investigation shows.

When Palin needed to sell her house during her last year as Wasilla mayor, she got the city to sign off on a special zoning exception — and did so without keeping a promise to remove a potential fire hazard.

She gladly accepted gifts from merchants: A free “awesome facial” she raved about in a thank-you note to a spa. The “absolutely gorgeous flowers” she received from a welding supply store. Even fresh salmon to take home.

She also stepped in to help friends or neighbors with City Hall dealings. She asked the City Council to add a friend to the list of speakers at a 2002 meeting — and then the friend got up and asked them to give his radio station advertising business.

That year, records show, she tried to help a neighbor and political contributor fighting City Hall over his small lakeside development. Palin wanted the city to refund some of the man’s fees, but the city attorney told the mayor she didn’t have the authority.

Palin claims she has more executive experience than her opponent and the two presidential candidates, but most of those years were spent running a city with a population of less than 7,000.

Some of her first actions after being elected mayor in 1996 raised possible ethical red flags: She cast the tie-breaking vote to propose a tax exemption on aircraft when her father-in-law owned one, and backed the city’s repeal of all taxes a year later on planes, snow machines and other personal property. She also asked the council to consider looser rules for snow machine races. Palin and her husband, Todd, a champion racer, co-owned a snow machine store at the time.

Palin often told the City Council of her personal involvement in such issues, but that didn’t stop her from pressing them, according to minutes of council meetings.

She sometimes followed a cautious path in the face of real or potential conflicts — for example, stepping away from the table in 1997 when the council considered a grant for the Iron Dog snow machine race in which her husband competes.

But mostly, like other Wasilla elected officials at the time, she took an active role on issues that directly affected and sometimes benefited her. Her efforts to clear the way for the $327,000 sale of the Palin family home on Lake Wasilla is an example.

Two months before Palin‘s tenure as mayor ended in 2002, she asked city planning officials to forgive zoning violations so she could sell her house. Palin had a buyer, but he wouldn’t close the deal unless she persuaded the city to waive the violations with a code variance.

The Palins, who were finishing work on a new waterfront house on Lake Lucille about two miles away, asked the city for the variance. The request was opposed by one planning official and some neighbors.

Status: Fake

Come to find out, pictures of bikini-clad girls posing with rifles and handguns are quite a popular fetish online (who knew?). I had to sift through dozens of redundant (to my taste) images on Google before finding the original used in this Photoshop job, but it did finally turn up in the photostream of a Flickr user named Doctor Casino. The picture, of a model named Elizabeth, was taken in Georgia in 2006.

Obama: McCain-Palin message is like ‘lipstick on a pig’

Barack Obama hurled an acidic attack at his Republican White House rivals’ reformist credentials, likening their promise of change to putting “lipstick on a pig.”

Barak Obama

“We’ve been talking about change when we were up in the polls and when we were down in the polls,” Obama said as surveys suggested John McCain and Sarah Palin have overhauled his lead for the November 4 election.

Supporters cheer as Sarah Palin speaks at a campaign event

“The other side, suddenly, they’re saying ‘we’re for change too.’ Now think about it, these are the same folks that have been in charge for the last eight years,” the Illinois senator told a crowd of 2,400 people in Lebanon, Virginia.

“You can put lipstick on a pig. It’s still a pig. You can wrap up an old fish in a piece of paper and call it change. It’s still going to stink after eight years. We’ve had enough,” he exclaimed to a standing ovation.

Sarah Palin tours stage at Republican National Convention

Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin touted her small-town roots and swiped at Democrat Barack Obama during a highly anticipated speech to the Republican convention on Wednesday, ridiculing her critics as “the Washington elite” who did not understand everyday life in America.

In her public debut in the spotlight, John McCain’s choice for vice president portrayed herself as a Washington outsider and came out swinging against Obama and members of the news media who have raised questions about her qualifications.

Sarah Palin

“I’ve learned quickly these past few days that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone,” the Alaska governor said in remarks prepared for delivery at the convention.

Sarah Palin

“But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion — I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country.”

Sarah Palin

Since McCain made the virtually unknown Palin his choice for running mate, she has been the center of a media storm fueled by disclosures about her unmarried teenage daughter’s pregnancy, a probe into her role in an Alaskan official’s firing and questions about her political record.
